Workshop news

The workshop has been very busy over the last few months with lots of repair work and smaller jobs mixed in with new builds and restorations.  Here's a glimpse of what we've been up to.

Huon Pine boat grade timber for sale

A good friend has a large quantity ( about 3200 super feet) of high quality huon pine boat boards available which he purchased a few years ago for a large project.  This timber is available in smaller pack sizes and Denman Marine can also process the timber to desired planking thickness or cut a dinghy/small boat planking pack to your requirements.  Freight to anywhere in Australia is no trouble.

If you are interested in obtaining some huon, give me a call on 0413765984.

Coming up soon.....

We will be starting two Oughtred design boats in October - one for a Hobart client and one for a Melbourne client.  Both of these boats will be the Tirrik design which is another double ended beach boat, 16'10" overall.  One boat is to have a gunter yawl rig and the second will be rigged as a gunter sloop.  Both boats will be great daysailers/small camp cruisers.

It is always great fun to build two boats of the same design side by side and we are looking forward to getting started in a few weeks time.

We have recently launched "Skye", a beautiful Caledonia Yawl for a Sydney client.  After many hours of sanding and painting it is always a reward to see the boat on the water.

These lovely double enders are 19'9" overall and have a choice of lug or gunter rigs.  This boat is the newer 7 strake version and also has fore and aft decks and side bench locker seating,  Hardware is a combination of tufnol blocks and beautiful cast gunmetal fittings. The classic cream sails from Storm Bay Sails really complete the picture.

These boats are excellent day sailers and camp cruisers and the interior can be custom built to suit individual requirements.

If you would like further information on the Caledonia Yawl, call us on 0413765984 for an information pack.

back in the water

We have recently finished restoring a lovely 12' clinker dinghy for another Queensland client.  She was made in 1963 by well known Tasmanian boat builder Reg Fazackerly.  She is planked in king billy pine on huon ribs with a NZ Kauri transom.  She has a lovely old 4hp seagull outboard as well.

All paint and putty was removed, a new transom frame, 7 new ribs and a couple of plank splits repaired. The boat has been re-painted and the brightwork has been oiled for lower maintenance.  There is a wonderful age patina where she is finished bright and the rear huon thwart is just stunning.  She now has a new lease on life for another 20+ years.

These old dinghies are worth restoring so if you have a boat that has been in the family for years or have just found one and would like it restored give us a call on 0413765984.

lovely huon pine transom

We have nearly finished one of the famed Joel White designed Shellback dinghies  and this boat is being built for a client in Queensland.    Unfortunately, the client has had a change of circumstance and now wants to sell the boat upon completion.

Construction is clinker/lapstrake ply with laminated celery top pine backbone and huon Pine fitout.

This boat will be a little different from the plan in that she will have built in bouyancy tanks, teak bottom boards and huon pine transom and rudder.  The boat comes fully finished with painted hull, varnished brightwork, classic cream lugsail and custom oars.

These boats perform very well under oars or sail (a small lug rig) and are perfect for getting out on the water for both older and younger sailors alike.

If you are interested in purchasing this boat, please contact andrew@denmanmarine.com.au or call on 0413765984 for further details.
