Tool Box Kit

Chesapeake Light Craft launch the new CLC Tool Box Kit.  You can purchase the Tool Box kit today for $130, contact us to place your order.

The CLC Tool Box is the boat-builder's interpretation of the classic "tab-and-slot" type, favored by woodworkers for its ease of assembly and flexibility. As the name suggests, the tool box goes together with mortise-and-tenon joints, with two locking "keys" to hold the whole assembly together. And since it's made of premium marine-grade plywood, just like our boat and camper kits, the CLC Tool Box is rigid and durable.

How you finish your tool box is up to you. Either tab the parts together and call it a day, or coat the assembly with epoxy and varnish it for extra durability. Stain it or paint it if you'd like! Aside from serving as an excellent organizer for your boat-building tools, the CLC Tool Box is a great introduction to plywood kit construction. The CLC Tool Box is free with any full kit purchase for the month of August 2017*. See here for further details, or contact us.

Kaholo Stand Up Paddleboard

Stand-Up Paddleboards are ridiculously fun, and are as close as you can get to walking on water.

It's taken five years and a lot of prototypes for CLC to refine the two Kaholo SUP boards.  Working with surfing and paddleboard guru Larry Froley of Gray Whale Trading in California, CLC created two beautiful hollow wooden boards with that rare quality of being fast enough to race but stable enough for first-timers.  Tracking is great and a fine bow with kayak-derived shaping lifts the Kaholo 12'6" and 14' up and over waves.  The tail shape and twin fins facilitate surfing on long swells once your skills build up to that.

With their uncanny speed, the Kaholo 12'6" and Kaholo 14' have found a following among racers.  The 14 is better for larger paddlers (or those who might carry along dogs or small kids).  The 12'6" is more compact, better for smaller-statured paddlers, and it fits in several increasingly popular racing classes.

There are no other SUP boards in the world that are easier for a first-time boatbuilder, or better-looking.  But you don't give up one bit of performance if you build your ownKaholo!

"It's the most amazing sensation---as close to walking on water as you're going to get.  But a little faster.  You achieve kayak-like speeds, but your visibility is vastly improved because your eyes are so much higher off the water.  You can see more, see further, and in clear water you have a much better view of sea life than you do in a kayak." -John C Harris

Teardrop Camper build video

Teardrop Camper build, 13 days in 13 minutes

In June 2017 students gathered at Chesapeake Light Craft's boatbuilding classroom in Annapolis to assemble their own CLC Teardrop Camper. They started from kits on Monday and rolled the campers out 13 days later, ready for sanding, finishing, and outfitting at home.

Using three GoPro cameras, Chesapeake Light Craft captured a time-lapse of the entire Build-Your-Own-Teardrop-Camper class in their Annapolis shop that can be viewed above or here.

You can find more information about our Teardrop Camper kit here. Otherwise please contact us.
